LAGUNA

11. Buruwisan Falls, Siniloan

buruwisan

Estimated solo travel budget: P650 (not recommended to do it alone since it is a two-hour hike)

Estimated budget if traveling with group of at least 4 pax: P450

What I like most about it: Buruwisan Falls is found deep within the forests of Mt. Romelo. It may not be the tallest on this list, but it definitely offers one the most memorable experiences with its proximity to other waterfalls. The campsite, which can be reached within two hours of hike, is located directly along the river that feeds this waterfall. Theoretically, that means you can stand on top of Buruwisan, and be amazed with its 55-m drop below you. But doing this is highly dangerous so it’s advisable to only try it when you’re joining a waterfall rappelling trip here and you’re well-equipped with safety harnesses.

How to get there from MANILA:

  • Manila via Tanay
    • Take a UV express bound for Tanay in front of Starmall Shaw (fare is P70).
    • Get off at Tanay market and transfer to a jeepney bound for Siniloan (P47).
    • From Siniloan, ride a triycle to Mt. Romelo’s jumpoff (P20). Alternatively, you can catch a bus bound for Real/Infanta Quezon from Nagtahan and get off at Siniloan.
  • Manila via Sta. Cruz
    • From Buendia, take the Greenstar bus going to Sta.Cruz. Fare costs about P180 and the trip takes 3 hours.
    • Alight at Sta. Cruz and ride a jeep to Siniloan (P40, 30-45mins)
    • From Jollibee Siniloan, ride a triycle to Mt. Romelo’s jumpoff (P20).

How to get there from CAVITE:

  • In front of Robinson’s Palapala, ride a van bound for Sta.Cruz/Pagsanjan. Travel time takes about 3 hours and fare costs P180.
  • From Pagsanjan junction, ride a jeepney bound for Siniloan/Famy and follow the directions above.

Other practical matters:

  • Registration fee of P50
  • Other waterfalls in Mt. Romelo include Lanzones, Batya-Batya, Sampaloc, Binaytuan, Diwata and Sapang Labo
  • There are some stores around the summit and at the campsite
  • If you need to hire a guide, which is not compulsory but recommended if no one in your group knows the way, guide fee range from P300 – P600 depending on group size.

12. Lanzones Falls, Siniloan

lanzones

Estimated solo travel budget: P650 (same trip with Buruwisan)

Estimated budget if traveling with group of at least 4 pax: P450 (Same trip with Buruwisan)

What I like most about it: Lanzones Falls can be reached in just 10 minutes from Buruwisan. It is named as such due to the Lanzones trees that grow in the area. In contrast with Buruwisan with a single drop and a cave behind, this one gently traces 21 meters of the mossy stone wall behind it.

How to get there: Lanzones Falls is located in Mt. Romelo with Buruwisan Falls, Batya-batya Falls, etc

13. Cavinti Falls, Cavinti

cavinti

Estimated solo travel budget: P1000

Estimated budget if traveling with group of at least 4 pax: P900

Here are the packages available:

Package 1: Entrance fee plus Nakulo falls up to view deck – P50.00

Package 2: Package 1 plus Metal Ladders, Raftride at Pagsanjan Falls, Exit at Metal Ladders – P270

Packages include tour guides, safety harness, vests and other protective gears.

*rates are for non-Cavintian Filipino tourists

How to get there from MANILA:

  • From Buendia, take the Greenstar bus going to Sta.Cruz. Fare costs about P180 and the trip takes 3 hours.
  • Get off at the last destination of the bus at Sta. Cruz and ride a jeep going to Cavinti. Fare is P15 and takes another half an hour.
  • Tell the driver to drop you off at Cavinti town proper. From there, take a tricycle to the registration area. A trip costs P150.

How to get there from CAVITE:

  • From Robinson’s Palapala, take a bus to Sta. Cruz (P180, 2.5 – 3 hours) and follow the same directions above.

Other practical matters:

  • Pagsanjan Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in the country. However, locals now prefer to call it as Cavinti Falls as it is located in this municipality.
  • Before an alternative route was opened, boat ride from Pagsanjan town proper was the sole access to the waterfalls. It takes about an hour and a half of rafting for P1,200.
  • With the initiative of the municipal government, the Pueblo El Salvador Nature’s Park and Picnic Grove opened an adventure route in 2007 and offered a more affordable alternative way to reach the falls. This route also added rappelling and hiking into the experience.

14. Bumbungan Falls, Cavinti

bumbungan

Estimated solo travel budget: P700 (or just add the entrance fee to your budget for Cavinti Falls if you’re visiting them in one trip)

Estimated budget if traveling with group of at least 4 pax: P600 (or just add the entrance fee to your budget for Cavinti Falls if you’re visiting them in one trip)

How to get there: Follow the same directions to Cavinti Falls. If you just want to check the place for a few minutes, you can take a tricycle from Pueblo El Salvador and ask the driver to stop in Bumbungan Eco Park. If you plan to stay here for a few hours, you can just walk from Pueblo El Salvador.

Other practical matters:

  • It is a common side trip of those who take the Adventure Route to Cavinti.
  • The entrance fee is P10 for a day tour and P20 for an overnight stay.
  • There are nipa huts that can be rented for P150.

BATANGAS

15. Ambon-ambon Falls, Laurel

ambon batangas

Estimated solo travel budget: P800

Estimated budget if traveling with group of at least 4 pax: P650

What I like most about it: Batangas is known for its mountains, but not for its waterfalls. This was another destination that I got to enjoy solo (well, with my guide). There are two waterfalls along this trail, with the smaller one known as Malagaslas. The half-hour hike involves numerous river crossings. I went during the summer and it was knee-deep. With its height of 60 m, it was easy to spot Ambon-Ambon Falls even 10 minutes before we reached the basin. About 1/3 of the waterfall is hidden behind those boulders.

How to get there from MANILA:

  • Hop on a bus bound for Batangas City via Tanauan or Lipa (2 hours, P99) and get off at Tanauan bus terminal
  • Take a tricycle to Tanauan market (P15)
  • Transfer to a jeepney that goes to Laurel (1.5hrs, P45)
  • From Laurel market, hire a tricycle to the jump-off of Malagaslas/Ambon-Ambon (P75)

How to get there from CAVITE:

  • From Pala-pala, ride a van to Tanauan city (1 hour, P60) and follow the same directions above

Other practical details:

  • There is no registration fee but hiring a guide (P300) is recommended
  • The jump-off is located at Sitio Salipit. The tricycle will drop you off near a basketball court and you’ll see a bridge behind it. Cross the bridge and you’ll see the sign to the waterfalls.
  • There are tables (P100) and cottages (P300) for rent in Malagaslas but only tables in Ambon-Ambon

RIZAL

16. Daranak Falls, Tanay

daranak

Estimated solo travel budget: P500-P700

Estimated budget if traveling with group of at least 4 pax: P300-P500

What I like most about it: Daranak is made famous by shampoo commercials and fantasy movies such as Enteng Kabisote. The place is well-developed, with concrete cottages perfect for family outings but thankfully, the place is clean and well-maintained. I combined this trip with Batlag and Calinawan Caves, with a side trip to Palo Alto Falls in Baras.

How to get there from MANILA:

  • From Starmall Shaw, take an FX (P70) or jeepney (P53) bound for Tanay and alight at Tanay Public Market. Travel takes about 2 hours.
  • Look for the tricycle terminal going to Daranak Falls. A trip costs P150 and takes 30 minutes.

How to get there from CAVITE:

  • From Tejero or Aguinaldo Highway if you’re coming from the south, take a bus to Baclaran. Fare costs P41 and takes 30-45 mins (for Tejero origin).
  • From Baclaran, you can either take a bus to Starmall Shaw or ride a jeep to Taft (P8) and transfer to MRT  (P20). From Starmall, follow the directions above.

Other practical matters:

  • Entrance fee of P50
  • Picnic tables and huts are available for P200 and P300, respectively.
  • There are grills available that you can use for free
  • It’s also possible to negotiate with the driver if you want to visit Daranak/Batlag and Calinawan Falls. The price is around P400 for 5-6 hours.

17. Batlag Falls, Tanay

batlag

Estimated solo travel budget: P550-P750 (or just add P100 to your travel budget if you’re visiting it with Daranak)

Estimated budget if traveling with group of at least 4 pax: P350-P550 (or just add P100 to your travel budget if you’re visiting it with Daranak)

What I like most about it: Since it is smaller (with a height 10 m) and more expensive than Daranak Falls, Batlag Falls is way more peaceful and less crowded. The place has two distinct waterfalls and pools that blend well with the dense forests around them.

How to get there: Follow the directions to Daranak Falls. Upon entering the vicinity of Daranak, there is a path on the left side that leads to Batlag Falls. You’ll pass by the registration where you have to pay P100.

Other practical matters:

  • It’s possible to camp in Batlag Falls
  • Cottages are also available for P250. However, the waterfalls is not visible from their location.

18. Palo Alto Falls, Baras

palo alto

Estimated solo travel budget: P300-P400

Estimated budget if traveling with group of at least 4 pax: P300-P400

What I like most about it: If you’re just dropping by for a quick visit, it’s free to enter the resort where Palo Alto Falls is located. I did it as a side trip when I went to Daranak and Batlag Falls. While the water wasn’t too strong, Palo Alto’s drop of almost 18 m was still a welcome sight.

How to get there from MANILA:

  • From Cubao, ride a jeep or FX to Cogeo Gate 2 (P24 for jeep, P30 for FX).
  • Alight at Gate 2 and transfer to a jeepney bound for Sampaloc, Tanay. This passes through the Marilaque Highway (P30-P40)
  • Ask the driver to drop you off at Palo Alto Falls. It’s very hard to miss since there’s a huge sign on your right announcing the waterfall, beside the main gate of the Palo Alto Leisure and Residential Estates.
  • Inform the guard that you’re visiting the waterfall and leave an ID. He will tell you which way to take. From here, you’ll have to walk for about 10-15 mins.

How to get there from CAVITE:

  • From Tejero or Aguinaldo Highway if you’re coming from the south, take a bus to Baclaran. Fare costs P41 and takes 30-45 mins (for Tejero origin).
  • From Baclaran, you can either take a bus to Cubao or ride a jeep to Taft (P8) and transfer to MRT  (P24). From Cubao along Aurora Boulevard, follow the directions above.

Other practical matters:

  • While a quick visit is free, you have to pay P100 if you plan to stay for a few hours
  • There are about 250 concrete steps to get to the waterfalls
  • Rental fees: P300 for tables and P700 for bigger cottages

19. Kaytitinga Falls, Rodriguez

kaytitinga

Estimated solo travel budget: P150-P300

Estimated budget if traveling with group of at least 4 pax: P150-P350

What I like most about it: I visited Kaytitinga Falls during an overnight hike to Mt. Balagbag. It was during a weekday so my friend and I were able to have the summit and falls all to ourselves.

How to get there from MANILA:

  • From Cubao, ride a bus bound for Tungkong Mangga and ask the conductor to drop you off at Jollibee Tungko or specify that you’re looking for the terminal of Licao-Licao jeepneys (P45 for non-AC bus, 45mins)
  • Transfer to a jeep bound for Licao-Licao and alight at Sitio Karahume (P25, 30-45mins).

How to get there from CAVITE:

  • From Tejero or Aguinaldo Highway if you’re coming from the south, take a bus to Baclaran. Fare costs P41 and takes 30-45 mins (for Tejero origin).
  • From Baclaran, take a bus bound for Tungkong Mangga and follow the directions above.

Other practical matters:

  • The best way to visit Kaytitinga Falls is to combine it with Mt. Balagbag
  • From Sitio Karahume, you’ll pass by the Otso-otso Falls after about 45mins
  • From Otso-otso Falls, Kaytitinga is another hour of hike
  • If you’re hiking Mt. Balagbag as well, the summit can be reached in about 2 hours from Kaytitinga
  • Registration fees: P10 (to the waterfalls) and additional P20 to Mt. Balagbag

CAVITE

20. Mt. Palay-Palay Falls, Ternate

pico

Estimated solo travel budget: P400-P500

Estimated budget if traveling with group of at least 4 pax: P300-P400

What I like most about it: I’m from Cavite but sadly, this is the only one I’ve visited in my own province. To make up for it though, I’ve hiked Pico de Loro 5 times and experienced three different trails.

Other practical matters: Pico de Loro is indefinitely closed to allow the mountain to recover.

So there! If you happen to know other waterfalls around these areas, feel free to leave it in the comments section.
